Logan Spin-off Film Based on X-23 Currently in Production

The director of Logan teased he's currently working on a spin-off film featuring Wolverine's cloned daughter X-23. Also teased this likely being the direction for future Wolverine films and the success of Wonder Woman as the main reason for this decision.

Film itself is in the script writing stage of development.

Quote:

After the success of Logan, it should come as no surprise that the creative team behind the movie is looking to keep the franchise moving forward. Where does the saga of Wolverine go now that Hugh Jackman has retired his claws, though?

According to Logan director James Mangold, who confirms a script is in the works, X-23--otherwise known as Laura (Dafne Keen)--could be the future of the franchise. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Mangold says it's Wonder Woman that may have made the project a possibility. "Patty [Jenkins'] success with that film only solidifies more for studios that there's less to fear with a female protagonist," he says. "The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, 'Well, here we are with a female protagonist. That's incredible. And what are we going to do with her?' And that's where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming."

She's gonna need someone to play off. A near mute girl, even if it's Daphne's X23, may not be enough.

Sixx 10-24-2017 11:38 PM

Fuck this. Not the same with Jackman gone.

Destor 10-24-2017 11:53 PM

Not the same isnt a bad thing

Seanny One Ball 10-25-2017 01:32 PM

I dunno if you can franchise a character this little known

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 01:37 PM

X23 would be what we call: a break out character. Already popular in the comics, everybody knows and loves her now. Just like Harley.

Seanny One Ball 10-25-2017 02:26 PM

There are comics?

Next you'll be saying there's a guy that managed to spin "Stanley" out into two separate names.

X-23 has been around since '04

I don't think her level of success is anywhere near Harley.

It could be though down the line

Destor 10-25-2017 02:55 PM

she has real break out potential right now

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 02:56 PM

I'm saying her rise was comparable. Started in a cartoon, went to comics, got some 'sub-culture love' but not quite mainstream, then BOOM - one movie later all the normies know about her.

Lock Jaw 10-25-2017 02:58 PM

Needs a slutty costume for girls to cosplay as before she gets to the next level......

Which could be problematic with the character and actress being underage.

I was being massively disingenuous there. Apologies if you got caught in the deceit.

Dunno if all the normies would even know who X-23 is. They might know the feral little girl in Logan, and might even be able to tell you her name is Laura.... but you mention X-23 And I bet they are alk "huh? Who?"

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 03:02 PM

You're splitting hairs here. X23 = Laura. It doesn't matter if they're literally using a code name.

Destor 10-25-2017 03:03 PM

Yeah, semantics arent an issue really

Lock Jaw 10-25-2017 03:04 PM

But anyways, I do agree that Logan was good enough, and the little girl's performance good enough that a spinoff continuation film could do good and get lots of attention.

I do agree that she might need a new person to play off of so it isn't just her.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 03:11 PM

It's highly unlikely they'll adapt Nyx in this climate so her friends are out. And Marvel aged her up a good 5-6 years since her comic debut to a young adult now, so a lot of her young adult adventures won't fly for the still teenaged Daphne. Some kind of adult draw is needed. I'd go with a female mutant, Rogue even, to mentor her.

And it might be a good time to seriously consider lowering the rating. Daphne is a fresh faced breakout with unimaginable draw potential for teens especially girls. Can't ignore that.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 03:13 PM

Crazy as it sounds she's Fox's Wonder Woman.

Fuck that. There is enough artistic integrity being thrown in the trash for marketing reasons these days. Leave x-23 alone.

Fignuts 10-25-2017 03:47 PM

And considering that Fox's R-rated films have done better than the pg-13 x-men films, it's an unnecessary change from a business standpoint.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 03:51 PM

Just sayin. Somebody at Fox absolutely said what I said.

Destor 10-25-2017 03:58 PM

Somebody at Fox cancelled Firefly after 11 episodes.

Kalyx triaD 10-25-2017 04:06 PM

He is likely a bum living on the LA River.

I don't know much about comics and stuff but X 23 was in a.cartoon before. Not that it matters because Logan did enough to sell me on the character. Plus she is basically a female Wolverine which means awesome powers that do well in a lot of different stories/fights.

I don't think a movie needs to have a super known hero to be successful now a days. She will get the Logan rub, have a lot of awesome fights, and comic book movies do well in general.
