Punisher

I want this so bad.

Don't talk about the show. Just console me for a bit. Compliments welcome.

Lock Jaw 05-15-2017 08:21 PM

Feel like Daredevil season 2 was maybe the first time I enjoyed Punisher..... I like the whole "brain damage" angle they added to him.....

I will check out his series, but think he might be best as a supporting character/loose cannon and not as the focus of an entire series......

Swiss Ultimate 05-15-2017 08:58 PM

I enjoyed the ultraviolence. Punisher's acting was a cut above too, so that helped.

Swiss Ultimate 05-15-2017 08:59 PM

I hated the movie and never read the comics.

Lock Jaw 05-15-2017 09:25 PM

Never saw the movies..... read some comics......

Just always thought/wondered why the heroes never threw his ass in jail and kept him there. Seemed like a villain that should be stopped quickly.

The "Max" series was better, as it was in a world without superheroes, but even then I just keep thinking "this guy should prob be in jail"

Swiss Ultimate 05-15-2017 09:30 PM

Oh definitely. The only way Punisher works is if corruption is nearly total and the mafia is running around like ISIS murdering people in the streets.

Swiss Ultimate 05-15-2017 09:33 PM

All vigilantes obsessed with non-lethal takedowns, but handing out broken necks and concussions like candy make me smile.

The Batman games were fun, but I pretty much assumed most of those people I knocked out were dying from brain bleeding.

Destor 05-15-2017 09:36 PM

Which book was it that kingpin was raped in? Whatever that was was the best punisher story...may have been Max

Swiss Ultimate 05-15-2017 10:14 PM

Holy fuck.

Which movie?

Swiss Ultimate 05-16-2017 02:42 PM

I never saw the straight to video one. The Dolph one sucked as did the one with Kevin Nash.

Swiss Ultimate 05-16-2017 02:44 PM

I actually own the ultraviolence one with Jigsaw. Filmed like a horror film.

Which straight to video one?

The Dolph one was the first one. There is no straight to video Punisher movie, unless we're talking cartoons.

alvarado52 05-16-2017 03:12 PM

He may be talking about Warzone? Im assuming so anyway since he clearly mentions Dolph and Jane's Punishers (by my count there's only three Punisher films, unless im forgettings something).

It wasn't straight to video.

Swiss is mistaking but he's reffering to Warzone as "straight to dvd"

Sixx 05-16-2017 03:42 PM

Oh.

I know most people say it was shit, but I really enjoyed it. It was super violent and had badass Ray Stevenson and not pretty boy Thomas Jane.

Come on, you can't tell me this isn't art.

Destor 05-16-2017 03:57 PM

I liked it.

Rammsteinmad 05-16-2017 04:26 PM

Punisher: War Zone is an awesome movie! People watch a film titled "The Punisher" and expect The Shawshank Redemption. It's incredibly violent, brutal, and gritty, and Ray Stevenson was brilliant as Frank Castle. Just switch your brain off for a couple of hours and revel in senseless violence.

Fignuts 05-16-2017 05:02 PM

Yeah, warzone was great. The most comic accurate version thus far, though I love the Daredevil version too.

I thought the Thomas Jane version was a great revenge movie, but they totally missed the mark in their portrayal of the punisher. He's supposed to be psychologically unhinged, and emotionally detatched. Not sad and mopey.

Sixx 05-16-2017 05:05 PM

Yeah, I liked the Jane version as well, it just didn't feel like a Punisher movie.

Also, his backstory was ridiculous. Instead of his wife and kids dying, the bad guys wiped out like 40 Castle family members. And that skull t-shirt he got from his kid...

Rammsteinmad 05-16-2017 06:35 PM

I do think the Daredevil version of Punisher was by far the best portrayal though, but that's due to having plenty more than two hours to develop the character.

Yeah out of the 3 films, liked Warzone the most since it fit the character the best.

The Jane version was somewhat decent as an origins type story but agree about the transition to the actual Punisher character not being great.

Been a long time since seeing the Lundgren version but think it also did a better job with the actual character itself.

Swiss Ultimate 05-19-2017 09:23 PM

So Warzone had a theatrical release?

Emperor Smeat 05-19-2017 10:30 PM

Yeah but it was really bad in terms of box office revenues.

It also grossed $2,049,059 internationally, bringing it to $10,100,036 worldwide, making it a box office bomb comparing to its $35 million budget.

Add another $10 million in DVD sales and it only made a little over $20 million in the US.

Swiss Ultimate 05-19-2017 10:58 PM

Wow. Being deployed takes you out of the loop.

Yep I saw it opening night. Had to drive a bit over an hour to find a theater playing it. Damn great film. Made up for the abortion that was the THomas Jane Punisher.

Swiss Ultimate 05-25-2017 04:27 PM

He was too nice.

Hated his neighbors so much. Hated the popsicle scene too.

Swiss Ultimate 09-20-2017 08:05 PM
