Rate the Game: Week 86

We are just breezing through November, aren't we? I trust all preparations for whatever you're going to do for Thanksgiving are underway and that it will be a pleasant time for all. Maybe you'll partake in some of the games on this list? It's as good a time as any. But first, let's add one more title to the list by checking out last week's Silent Hill 2. Certainly not as familiar with the TPWW Universe as I might have believed, much to my chagrin. Alas, where does it end up?

It brings a tear to my eye to see it cracking the top ten and joining the elite crew with a 4.66 overall rating. How long will it remain there? We've got a lot more titles in the bowl that have a shot at claiming those elite spots for themselves so let's take a dive into what's next. Bowl, do your thing...

Back to the Nintendo 64 we go as we take a look at the original game that spawned a phenomenon still being enjoyed to this day, it's Super Smash Bros.! The Nintendo icons duke it out for our entertainment and joy but how much entertainment and joy did it bring you? Was it indeed a smash? I've played Smash, but I dunno which ones man. How about I just rate the franchise because I don't need to go in-depth with frames and shit like the pros do.

It's funny talking about "pros" when it comes to Smash when the reality is it's just a silly party game, not really meant for serious competition.

Best memory of any Smash was Christmas before COVID. Had the biggest fucking bottle of Fireball I've ever seen at work.

My entire team proceeded to get drunk while hooking up a Switch to one of the big projector screens rigth behind our work area.

Good times.

I imagine the creators were under the influence while developing Smash so I can only fathom what playing it while under the influence would be like.

Fox & Falcon 4 ever.

But I think was when time passed other entries were better. Especially Brawl.

I'll give this a 4.

Classic N64 game. Easy 5 for me, even if I like Melee and Ultimate better. Everything's got to start somewhere.

Wanted to give it a 4.5 but went with 5.

smash 64 is very meh. it was a neat idea but even back in the day i didnt care too much about it. melee changed all that...

It's ok and fun with other ppl but I never really got into it like most people seem to. It's a 3 I guess.

hes not wrong. the ammount of content thats banned to make it competitive is very telling. case in point jiggly puff being banned from competitive melee (even though exactly 1 person was having any success with that character.)

smash is a party game that try hards made into a competitive fighter.

I mean, sure, anything can be done competitively if you got enough people that are hardcore about it, like chess or Scrabble, but come on; it's Nintendo characters bonking each other in a comically slapstick fashion. im not sure how chess made your list of games that are ridiculous to play competitively and i took it personally

Clearly I meant wizard's chess.

To give a rating, I'd say a 4. Was pretty fun but Melee perfected it.... then it just got "too much" from there and went downhill.

Yeah, I've never played smash competitively myself. Just know there is a large contingent of its player base that will perform a blood ritual to eviscerate your soul if you say otherwise.

I've watched some comps online and some people just have waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time. Insane.

In fairness, every fighting game requires an ungodly amount of practice to reach competition levels.

My point stands. Also, take showers. Smash tournaments are known for stank so much they've made waifu posters stating it's sexy to shower.

Even sexier when someone else is in there with you.

THE STANK OF IT ALL

Smells like pit sweat. And shame. And that foul foot odor that when you when you think about it it kinda smells like doritos but not in a good way. Whatever that means.

Smash 64 - Went with my friend to get it when it came out, played it at his house a lot

Melee - Brother and I got all the guys, I remember leaving it on for like 3 days straight to get mr. game and watch

Ultimate - I barely play it. Smash is fun when you're around your friends a lot, but when you're an adult and don't get to hang out as much it loses its lustre. With the DLC and "stickers" and whatnot, theres too much shit now

This was another game I remember reading about in a GamePro preview. The concept sounded so out there. I also remember the commercials where it's like 4 of the characters walking hand-in-hand in a field and then start beating the shit out each other. Still have the magazine for it, too.

Angsty teen me was a huge Silverchair fan.

I still have that album from way back then.
