Even though I want to see the movie, this whole situation is hilarious to me.
"Great! Watchmen is all done and ready to be relea-" FOX: "Oh HAI guys!! So... *ahem* we own this here movie..." |
Solomon Must Be Pissed:
Captain Marvel is no longer happening. The screenwriter posted on his blog that WB wanted something edgier than the happier version of the character he penned (blame TDK). This is why Marvel [Comic Films] are kicking ass right now; they don't make movies according to 'focus groups'. WB better quit this 'darker is better' shit. How in the Hell did they think Captain Marvel would translate to such a tone? Do they even know who Captain Marvel is? Whatever. |
Yeah. Captain Marvel is like on the opposite scale of dark and gritty. Even further away than Superman, I'd argue.
They'll probably just decide to make a Black Adam film and have it be nothing but Adam ripping people in half for an hour and a half. |
Well if The Rock's still playing him...
|
God, if they keep with this 'make everything dark' bullshit, every DC movie that comes out is just gonna look like Marvel in the 90s. Nothing but gritty anti-heroes covered in pouches and sporting oversized guns and generally sucking all the fun out of the room.
Save the dark depressing stuff for Batman. Keep it the hell away from everyone else. |
|
Especially Captain fucking Marvel. I'm still WTF over that.

WB Takes A Chill Pill:
According to David Goyer [Writer/Director], WB is pressing pause on all of their DC properties - including Man of Steel and Green Lantern. He says the success of Iron Man and The Dark Knight made them rethink how they handled comic movies. Essentially, they're just now taking it serious. Whether they're gonna regroup and restructure their release plans or whatever is not stated. This is the second we've heard of WB acting in the tune of, "...Wait, people want all of our comic movies to be good?" As I mentioned in the past I think this has everything to do with Marvel Studios film-blitz in the last few years. And the buzz over the Avengers film will be fever pitch very soon. We'll see what this all means by late 2009. |
He's Still Chasing Cars:
There's some rumor going around that WB execs were riffing the possibility of Joker's return in Batman 3, at least in cameo like fashion. There's little more to this one, although it would make sense to have the character factor into what [I think] Nolan is going for with this trilogy. Smallville 9?: Smallville may well get another season. Can't imagine why they don't call it "Metropolis" at this point but hey, it's chugging along. If WB does end the show the writers already have a finale in mind, but since these very writers managed to re-energize the show, perhaps this won't be The Death of Superman after all. |

I've grown to love the aesthetic. And the only thing they ruined was Black Canary, IMO.

GOOD NEWS!!!

Give Tom a break, it was Clark Kent or being a Power Ranger.
|
Well, except for the original Mighty Morphin Rangers, they've all only lasted one season, so Tom made the smart choice of at least having a CHANCE at multiple seasons. Even if he WILL be typecast unless he can pull a Jim Carrey-esque out of the box role.

Random Smallville Promo Shot, Mini-Blog:
http://tvmedia.ign.com/tv/image/arti...0020614558.jpg First of all, Erica Durance is the hottest Lois Lane ever. Secondly, can we just call Smallville's Season 9 Metropolis now? For God's sake Clark and Lois are working in the Daily Planet already. Jimmy's there, and Chloe's a more than worthy addition to the Superman mythos. How much of the show even takes place in Smallville anymore? At this point the show is more a recreation of The Adventures of Lois and Clark. I haven't been watching myself, I rather catch up via major DVD marathons, but I kept up with general stuff. How about the Legion, huh? One reviewer compared Smallville to a Justice League Unlimited with all the characters popping up (except Bruce and Diana... dammit). Well I think a name change to Metropolis will breathe new life into the show, especially with the great job the new creative team's been doing. And who knows, if it is repackaged as Metropolis maybe we could ekk one or two seasons of that before a certain major life decision is made on camera... I mean, he can't be called the Blue Blur for long, right? Viva La Smallville! |
Ellivllams Ni S'annataz!:
Serinda Swan is on tap to portray Zatanna in an episode of Smallville. No word yet if she'll use her trademark backward speak for a few magic tricks! |
Batman 3 in 2011?:
TDK's producer says he expects a new Batman film in 2011. He also hints at knowing about the new villains and a possible love interest without spilling the beans. Of course, 'executive talk' like this are usually hyper positive and we'll know nothing for sure until Nolan himself (or his bro Jonah) give sign that a plot was developed. To me it's sounding like WB is trying to force a third movie with these little hints and half-news. If Nolan is still on vacation than he's on vacation, no need to rush something/anything just because somebody is bothering you over it. I'd just say, "Listen, I heard about all the buzz and I find the rumors and casting suggestions interesting but there is nothing concrete at the moment." Simple. My guess is we'll start hearing shit with weight to it next Fall or maybe even as early as Summer when the Superhero movie gloves come off from multiple studios vying for our geekly attention. Later. |
Green Lantern has been given a release date of December 17th, 2010. For what that's worth.
|
Forgot to mention that. Can't wait to see the production.
|
Super News:
Smallville got greenlit for a ninth season (call it Metropolis, already!). Man of Steel, the sequel to Superman Returns, has been given the project name "Superman Unleashed". Whether that's merely a hint at production tone or story is up in the air. |
I believe the Jonah Hex movie was also given a date of August 6, 2010.
|
I hope they do that Mark Millar Superman Trilogy. Scrap the current franchise and start from scratch. It sounds awesome and we'd see all the characters and avenues explored right from the getgo. We'd get a new, more badass Lex, a stronger Superman origin story, serious character development with everyone, and for the love of god, some formadible villians.
I want to see involvement from other baddies besides Lex. The military too. If they go the trilogy route from step one they could do some awesome stuff, like origins and his "death". |
Superman could really be the 'central force' in WB/DC's film plans. If they wanna be serious about crossovers and such.
Superman is all sorts of epic if they stop bumbling around and put Routh and a good director to work. |
I never want to see or read another Superman origin story ever again.
|
Agreed. The origin's been done to death. I would love to see them incorporate some of the more interesting villains from Superman's gallery instead of just Lex and Zod. Hell, even a Lex with more interesting ideas would be fun (like the one from All-Star Superman or Lex Luthor:Man of Steel) Just no more goddamn real-estate scams.
|
They need to involve Doomsday and the Superman death angle in the series somehow. I've seen enough of him flying around saving people, and foiling Lex's real estate scams.
They need to up the ante. People want to see Superman's powers put to use and taken to the limit in action. Fighting. |
What we need is white-collar criminal Lex, Kevin Spacey would eat that up. And at the same time, splice in some of that mad scientist Lex so Superman winds up fighting something Lex creates. Not Nuclear Man, though. Although I actually like Nuke Man, and wish he would get into comics. Anyway...
We're all pretty clear in that an origin story isn't needed, Lex needs to be dangerous, and Superman needs to punch something that won't die on impact. I think a suitable story could be forged out of the ending of Superman Returns. And it could involve little 'Superboy' even. |
They should have dark seid or doomsday in it
|
Darkseid would bring allusions to greater things at work, something WB isn't ready to produce. Doomsday would be cool, and Braniac would be relevant.
|
Wouldnt Doomsday bring allusions too then?
|
It's been announced that they are going to be making a Suicide Squad movie. Could be awesome.
But its being written by the guy who decided to make a Green Arrow movie called "Supermax", so it could also be bad. |
