If your playthrough is similar to mine, you may find yourself looking over an android internment camp set up at Hart Plaza. It's supposed to evoke the way Asian Americans were collected and isolated during World War II because Americans were afraid that Japan was going to stage an attack from within.

It's one of many race-fueled blemishes on American history that Cage is content to portray. However, he fails at offering any sort of meaningful commentary on it and other events because pushing the envelope too far and having an opinion might offend someone. The result is a game that leans on historical imagery instead of fresh ideas and nuance.

I agree the main point of games should not be 'Let's make this fun' but 'Let's make a statement'

Destor 05-24-2018 12:33 PM

games arent meant to be fun. games are supposed to be about guilt.

Fignuts 05-24-2018 02:46 PM

lol I don't mind if a game tries to make a statement, so long as it's a good game, that I'm having fun with. Far Cry 5 and Horizon Zero Dawn are perfect examples.

But they absolutely don't have to.

Big Vic 05-24-2018 04:14 PM

I don't think a game has to make a statement.

Swiss Ultimate 05-24-2018 06:38 PM

Nobody pays attention.

Emperor Smeat 05-24-2018 06:39 PM

Isn't quality storytelling like the biggest flaw of David Cage's games? Its why few people ever take whatever he says or hypes up for his grand plans for games seriously.

Only people I think are comparable are Peter Molyneux and Gearbox's Randy Pitchford when it comes to not believing what they say about games and their goals for them.

Kalyx triaD 05-24-2018 09:15 PM

This isn't about story-telling. The author is doing what other critics said about Far Cry 5; he wants his ideology confirmed and therein shoved down everybody else's throats. He'd give it a GotY nod while it tanks with user critics, cause these weirdos operate under a post-standard ideal.

Oddly enough, I would have assumed this game would dive in the subject matter considering the themes involved. Guess I read Cage wrong.

Ultra Mantis 05-25-2018 06:57 PM

But how many polygons do the characters have?

At least Pitchford has had commercial and critical success with some of his games/game series. I don't know much about this Cage guy, so somebody enlighten me, although I think I already know what the answer will be: Has Cage ever had a commercial and critical success on or above the level of Borderlands 2, which by the way, damn near 6 years on still has an enormous MP player base for a game as old as it is?

Ultra Mantis 05-25-2018 09:48 PM

Yeah, Heavy Rain.

Borderlands 2 has like 12 polygons. Garbage. Barely any emotions at all.

Fignuts 05-25-2018 11:38 PM

Borderlands sucks.

Destor 05-26-2018 12:02 AM

Man it really does

DAMN iNATOR 05-27-2018 02:03 PM

So bad. I can't pry myself away from it. :shifty:

OssMan 05-28-2018 08:45 AM

Looking forward to playing this game, a videogame is a text just as much as a movie or book is so the author has creative control over it.. a book can "make a statement" or just be entertainting just like a videogame can. Idiots like Kalyx will tell you that you should villify someone for sharing their beliefs in his sacred videogames though

Savio 05-28-2018 09:42 PM

The article is mad that he is not doing more to make a statement.

DAMN iNATOR 05-28-2018 11:00 PM

Guess Destor, Figgy and UM just can't appreciate an excellent game that happens to literally have a diamond horse who is a queen and can save the world simply by being fed 5 pieces of priceless Eridium. SMH.

The tale tell borderlands game was much better than borderlands itself

I will only agree if you mean better than The Pre-Sequel. 1 and 2 are was fantastic.

Tales From the Borderlands ("the 'tale tell' [Telltale] borderlands game")will always have a special place in my heart though.

Also if you really think that, especially re 2, you haven't played the game. The story, the gameplay, the characters (especially Damien Clark, who turned in an Oscar-worthy performance as Handsome Jack), the setting and levels, the humor, the loot (flawed as some of it is), the vault hunters each with their own skill trees - there's too much there for a MMOROGFPS game fan NOT to love.

I'm sure I'm not changing any minds but my love of the 2 main entries in the series will never die.

Fignuts 05-29-2018 06:14 AM

Playing borderlands bored me to tears. And I'm still entertained by Destiny.

Big Vic 05-29-2018 09:27 AM

Borderlands wasn't....bad..... nor was it great.... Didn't finish it though.

Ultra Mantis 05-29-2018 06:18 PM

I played the entirety of BL1 & 2 and found them both incredibly mediocre in every conceivable way.

Emperor Smeat 05-29-2018 08:18 PM

Enjoyed Borderlands 2 but only got through like half of the first game. Playing them in reverse order made it more aparent how the small changes done for the 2nd game made it way more enjoyable.

The first one I can understand, but I concur with Emperor Smear on the post above mine.

This popped up in my feed, game looks pretty interesting.

The first game's ending is kinda MEH, but it does hint at some events to happen in 2.

As for 2, if you're truly done with it forever, fine. However, I'll just say that IMHO I think you're doing yourself a bit of a disservice if you can't bring yourself to see the ending on Normal with at least one VH.

BL2 ending:
SPOILER: show

I can see that. I guess it did fall a little flat. I liked some of the parallels, though I did end up setting off a nuclear bomb in the end. Whoops.

Nicky Fives 08-08-2018 05:47 AM

I caught Xavier Woods doing a walk through on his channel and thought it looked interesting so I shelled out the money and bought it. Great game, great story, great everything. Graphics are so real that my dog was freaking out thinking that Chloe (menu character) was in the house.

Destor 10-01-2018 12:50 AM

Just finished this. Really well written. Anyone claiming this game didnt have its own voice didnt play the same game i did. Very engaging. Very fun.

Big Vic 10-04-2018 03:41 PM

What ending did you get?

Destor 10-04-2018 03:49 PM

SPOILER: show
