Funk is the GOAT. Lawler is top 3. Funk gets my vote over anybody

Funk reached a higher point in the business as the NWA champion.


Lawler's Q rating is much higher though. The Kaufman deal alone. Plus his pioneering of the "memphis" style is still the prodiminant style across the country. The style that Dtuch, Dundee and himself refined is the hard blue print of the western product.

Lawler found a way to constantly be over in a territory, to stay over and stay popular and not get stale. He became a legend cause he is great at professional wrestling. All aspects of it. Great promo and really creative mind.

I think he was the better performer between him and Funk. He was naturally charismatic and carried himself like a champ.

Going to have to go for Lawler here. Incredibly underrated.

Seriously, though...King is one of the most legit decorated wrestlers in the history of the industry and his feud with Andy Kaufman helped lay the foundation for professional wrestling to go from regional to national exposure.

Funk is no doubt great in his own right, but it just seems to me Lawler has contributed a bit more to the industry as a whole and for that reason along with all the others I've given, made it a no-brainer to vote for him.

Lawler mainly for watching more of his career and playing a role in Memphis style become very influential in wrestling.

Also for the one time he feuded with Batman which is something Funk never did. :shifty:

That is not remotely true. Lawler was notorious for holding down young talent, even his son.

While i agree with lawler holding people down he contributed in many ways outside of building up new talent.

Damn. I think I'm gonna give Lawler the slight edge for having the bigger impact. Outside of that, they're pretty much neck and neck. Mid-90's Lawler might be my favorite heel ever and it's not even remotely his best work.

I went with Funk. I think this is a difficult match up but Funks ability to stay in the game on multiple continents while completely overhauling his style so drastically over the course of 40 years is just too hard to trump.

Lawlers legacy isnt a small blurb though.

Went with Funk because he is the defending champion. NWA World Title is his high point and Lawler's high point is the AWA Title. Being the King fish in Memphis Pond was great but it's not the same as being the NWA World Champion when it meant something.

It's been documented. Lawler had an obsession with his age and held down numerous young talent like the Fabulous Ones and Brian Christopher. He also destroyed Jimmy Valiant's push in the early 80's when Jimmy was passing him as the number one face.

Terry Funk is literally better in every way, including announcing. Plus he's given more back to wrestling than probably any other wrestler in history.

I know he came into the WWE at the end of his career....but you know I'm honestly shocked that Vince never put the big strap on Lawler, even if it was part of a gimmick feud with a quick turnaround.

Could have put it on him after he started commentating, too. Have him develop a huge ego from it and constantly talk about himself being champion and being better than all these other guys in the ring. Then get his comeuppance from some unexpected up and comer. Could have worked way back when.

When Lawler smashed Tiny Tim's ukulele on The King's Court, I wanted him to die a slow death.

Lawler signed a contract when he came in where he could still wrestle in Memphis (their Monday night shows, plus Memphis T.V). He wasn't going to do anything remotely close to a full house show so, hence why he was never under any consideration for the title.
