Lucha Underground Season 1 Thread
Thought I would try to help everyone out a little bit with organization since the show is coming to Netflix US/Canada this week.
Please limit your specific discussions in this thread to Season 1. An example might be "Man, just wait until you see the crazy shit Mascarita Sagrada does in Season 2!" would be okay because it's non-specific, but "Dude, Mascarita Sagrada wins the Lucha Underground Championship in Season 6!" would not be because it gives away something in the future that may/may not have been seen by everyone. LU is taped and these episodes are old, but it is way more enjoyable without it being spoiled for you. Assuming that very few people have seen these episodes, those of us that have need to be respectful of the viewing experience of others and not just throw shit out there without purpose. Please keep all current LU discussions to the current season thread. Thanks! Now let's go to the lovely Melissa Santos! |
Good call. Holy shit I'm happy about this.
I think DaveWadding REALLY wants somebody to talk to about Lucha Underground.......
I've seen a lot of Lucha Underground shit but it's all been in YouTube clips so I have no idea what season things happened in.

Lucha Underground is my jam. Some of the matches can get a little samey since everyone has a pretty similar moveset, but I love their whole soap-opera/comic-book format. Also, Dario Cueto is easily the best 'evil authority figure' guy since 1998 Vince.
Gonna go back and watch the first two seasons again once they hit Netflix, now that I can watch it without going to a pirate site and giving my computer herpes. |

Lucha Underground is about the only wrestling I've watched in years.
It's daft, Has some ridiculous plot lines (and a lot that are great and more interesting than anything WWE would do) and the "wrestling" side of it is all style, no substance, but I think with age that's all I give a shit about now. I'd rather see a 10 minute match of people hitting each other with weapons and jumping off of high things than any number of rest holds and traditional wrestling where nothing of note happens until the last minute of a match anyway. I couldn't care less about any of that any more. The storylines are fun as are most of the characters. There's dragons, spacemen, lizard men, gangsters, bikers, cyborgs, drug enthusiasts, unstoppable monsters that are actual monsters and a bunch of regular wrestlers whose motivation for actually doing something is properly explained. Almost every match has a reason for happening and there's no filler. Every single character is involved in a storyline and because it's only 45 mins long you don't get the same characters every week so they don't get stale. Vampiro and Matt Striker are also great on commentary. So basically it's the polar opposite of what I last saw with WWE and from what I read every now and then it hasn't changed at all. It's very fun for someone who got fed up of wrestling a long time ago and definitely worth watching. |

It's simple. There's no "women's division". Men have matches with men. Women have matches with women. Men have matches with women. There's nothing that needs explaining. |

It did start going downhill slightly in the last season, but even then, it's a lot of fun. Worldwide Underground are the best stable. |
Also the ring announcer, Melissa Santos is the hottest braud in rasslin.
I'm still pretty shocked They call him Cage hasn't been signed by WWE still. But I'm glad he hasn't.

It's here.
Pretty great first episode. They accomplished what Vince never could with the backstage scenes. |
Only complaint is it doesn't look great on my HD tv.
Started watching a bit of it. Was that Johnny Nitro i saw? I had to cut it off honestly.
Yes it was.
Interesting. I'll watch more later. It wasnt bad, i just needed to watch the BBall games.
The first two matches were so so, but it was the pilot. Had to start somewhere.
I'm in on this for sure. I just cut it off for some other things cause i had people over. But i'll be watching and giving opinions.

If you're suggesting this will influence domestic violence or paint it in a positive light that's highly doubtful. |
Worry worry worry.
I kind of hate Sexy Star.
Mil Muertes, Drago, Johnny Mundo, and the commentary are my favorite parts so far.
Enjoying the Chavo super heel stuff.
Big Ryck is a beast. I dig the cigar.
Prince Puma is winning me over. This street fight with Ryck is great.
Shades of ECW.
I love this show. |

Cornette is such a cock for not loving this show. |
Did you know that Sexy Star is Spanish for Roman Reigns?
That's what Vince McMahon keeps telling me.

3 eps in. Damn that Chavo!
Yeah, what a fucker.
WE LIE. WE CHEAT. WE STEAL.
Pentagon Guerrero Jr
Are there any other Guerrero family members left?
I didn't know there were 38 episodes in season 1. Holy fuck.
KING CUERNO, BITCHES.
If it makes you feel better, it's really 36 episodes because Ultima Lucha goes for 3 hour long episodes.
And besides, when it really gets going, 38 episodes goes by really fast.
19 in already.
Was surprised at the familiar face I saw. |
at episode 8...seems insane to go back and watch some of the guys that I didn't know about before LU and now rate in my top 10 like Pentagon and Cuerno...took me awhile to come around to them both.
Pentagon is fun, but he does not act like a ninja in the ring. He needs to be more like Tajiri.
Cuerno has a fantastic style, I love the deer headdress. There are a lot of standout guys. Been impressed with Cage big time. |
Spoiler free wishlist:
1. BIG RYCK Grow some facial hair, looked weird with clean shave. 2. Tajiri. Want it. 3. Special appearance by Kane |
The crowd is a little obnoxious.
Hate "this is awesome" chants. |
The crowd banging the Terminator theme on the chairs and floors for Cage is amazing though.

Last I watched on tv was a few weeks after Alberto El Patron joined...... |

Son of Havoc with a face turn? Kind of ambiguous.
Also, that girlfriend of his. Such a fun character. Like a good version of Vicky Guerrero. |
Ivelisse is hot as hell and a monster in the ring. And you can't teach that.

Holy shit. Somehow I get El Rey now, haven't upgraded my DirecTV package or received any promotionso so I guess they moved it to a lower package. Anyway 2 episodes come on in an hour, Season 3 episodes 3 & 4. Haven't watched since season 1 when they had a spanish provider and I watched it all in spanish.

Trios matches have all been great.

Is it just me or is Killshot super sloppy?
Ten episodes away from season 2.
Vampirio hates Konnan, but loves Chavo.
Don't get it. |
Vamp and Konnan have real beef going back to the dawn of time.

FINISHED.
So much fun. Wrestling steadily improved from ep 1 all the way to ep 39. |
I decided to start watching this through again (for approximately the 4th time) because I can actually talk about these episodes, and I'm really, really checked out on WWE right now.
I will probably pick up watching this again after the NJ Cup. Left off at the beginning of season 2.
The vignettes introducing all of the characters are perfect. Jump starts the whole idea of back stories and who to root for in a really effective way.
The Penta/Fenix match on Episode 4 is a total BANGER. Everyone of their matches together is on fire. That's what happens when you've been wrestling each other since you were in diapers, I guess.
Hey slik
K about to start
Opening is really cool of Ep 1
get rich or die trying
Vampiro looks 740 years old
"You gotta have strong hips and a strong neck to do this"
Matt Striker giving an education on commentary r/n |
I didn't know John Morrison has been w/ LU since the start
Ya. Mundo is so good. Also Striker
Seeing Sexy Star 4 da first time now
Chavo getting the 3rd degree by evil Dario backstage
Ezekiel Jackson is here and he means business!
1st ep was good |
How's episode 2 so far?
I'm not watching r/n
Giving some thought to watching 2 episodes of Lucha Underground instead of the 1st two hours of RAW, and then fastforwarding through 90% of RAW.
I think I left off shortly after Alberto El Patron arrived.... don't remember the exact episode I was on, though..... |
15 or 16 most likely
