Baron Corbin's Cash-in

Someone on NeoGAF's wrestling board speculated the idea of Corbin losing his cash-in this close to SummerSlam could have been punishment due to a recent bad incident he had on Twitter.

Was ridiculing Meltzer on Twitter last week when someone else responded to his tweets which got the full ire of Corbin. Turns out the other person he trashed was from the military and the apology he gave came off as healf-hearted. Unlike other times he lashed out and made fun of people, Corbin deleted the tweets which could have been a sign the WWE found out and were pissed at what happened.

Destor 08-16-2017 01:58 AM

I know Vince is a fucking statist but thats absurd. Cant argue with servicemen? Fuck off (if true)

Destor 08-16-2017 01:58 AM

(IF TRUE)

#1-norm-fan 08-16-2017 02:21 AM

I'd like to thank that man for his service. (Stopping Baron Corbin from being a world champion.)

#BROKEN Hasney 08-16-2017 03:33 AM

Corbin failed to cash in?

Meltzer thinks it was those Tweets too. You can just see the oh shit moment.

Same guy who was ready to fire Titus O'Neil for a "shove" that nobody would have even really noticed if he didn't react like Titus just tried to kill him with a chainsaw and purportedly had to be talked down to simply suspending him for just enough time to allow him to miss a WrestleMania.

Triple A 08-16-2017 03:40 AM

"I don't buy it" because that seems too idiotic if true... a fan insulted him and he insulted him back like he always does... also what Destor said

feels like Corbin probably deleted the tweets on his own because he immediately "backed down" when the guy "revealed" he was in the military ( )

#BROKEN Hasney 08-16-2017 03:49 AM

In the past two weeks, he's been made to look a dweeb on Twitter by Mojo, Cena, Balor, and that military guy. Corbin has just "been a heel" but they have come back with something better and his responses have been crap. It's basically been the online equivalent of this

Tom Guycott 08-16-2017 03:51 AM

What's really sad is that this exchange should be exploited to make him a super heel, since his character is supposed to be this amoral cock... and instead of being able to roll with that, he has to cover his ass because he might have offended someone in uniform, and that is verboten, lest we piss off servicemen ticketholders.

Yeah feels like they have prob "lost faith" in him, partly because of that but also because he has been kinda bad on the mic and stuff I think... and hasn't gotten a good crowd reaction

Punk said wayyy back on that colt podcast that they encourage you to stay in character on Twitter, but when you heel on someone, you get a call from the office. And that's just heeling on a regular guy, not a dude "in uniform" that Vince loves.

Triple A 08-16-2017 03:57 AM

Also last week Meltzer "buried" Corbin, though everything he said is pretty much true, so maybe that had an effect (or they came to the same conclusions on their own)

Quote:

What we do know is that Corbin was being groomed for the title later this year. However, that was before the decision to go with Mahal on top for the Indian market. For all the reasons, whether good or bad, that they went with Mahal, it makes absolutely zero sense to switch from him to go with Corbin. It’s not a matter of who is better, as Mahal is the better promo and has the stronger facial expressions, but Corbin has little going for him past he’s tall and can be pushed as a bully, but doesn’t have main event promos or charisma. And even though people probably don’t realize it, Mahal (31) is actually the younger of the two (32). The point is if the goal is to grow India, why take the title from Mahal? If that isn’t working, and ratings are up, and not down (although that’s more due to Cena being back full-time, but Mahal at least can’t be said has led to any migration of audience away), Corbin is everything Mahal is except he has no strong babyface appeal in a foreign land that they are targeting.

Yeah, I thought about that, and the "I shit my trunks" thing he had to erase/edit.

Overall, their social media aspect of anything has pretty much shit the bed. Neverminding Matt Hardy laying the groundwork well ahead of its time, WWE proved how incapable they are at this starting with Zack Ryder. Up to him, the company themselves would constantly paint "the internet" as about 5 people maximum in an international neckbeard circlejerk, when there were more people on social media than that IN THEIR EMPLOY. Then, they overlook the groundswell. Then, they try to manufacture it elsewhere like social media presence and YouTube shows were their idea all along. Then they sink a bunch of cash into that Johnny-come-lately Tout. Some talent get the opportunity to show more charisma and personality in 140 characters than they get allowed to on TV, because they can't find a few extra minutes to fit them in from 5-6 hours of TV a week (is Main Event still a TV thing, or is that network only now?) to exhibit any of it. Other people use their social media to divorce themselves from their TV personas. Others still flip back and forth between the two to go from being full on asshole heel to posting heartfelt pics of their kid.

There is no focus, and it being there, in spite of it now being one of the things the world can't revolve without anymore, is still treated as an afterthought UNLESS there is some backlash like Hogan's viral racisim shoot or Corbin shitting on a serviceman here.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-16-2017 04:39 AM

It's not all bad for Corbin, he set a new record!

Quote:

Jinder Mahal pinned Baron Corbin in 6 seconds to win a WWE Championship match, beating the previous official title match record.

Evil Vito 08-16-2017 08:42 AM

Watching it back, Jinder's foot goes under the ropes during the pin.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if that was by design. WWE pick and choose when they want to care about that stuff so they may not bother. But it gives them an "out" if they want to cancel the match result and give Corbin the case back or have an excuse to put him in the title picture once Cena goes to Raw.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-16-2017 08:51 AM

If they wanted to use "logic" they could also say fuck Baron since he ruined the main event of the evening so he gets nothing.

Evil Vito 08-16-2017 09:04 AM

I think I'm one of the few here that actually like Corbin and see potential - but he's nowhere near title ready. I thought this made for a fun twist and to me it adds more intrigue to both Cena/Corbin and Nakamura/Mahal. I couldn't give less of a shit about either match before last night.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-16-2017 09:16 AM

I still give no shits about either match as they feature Baron Corbin and Jinder Mahal.

Sorry :(

Holy shit...

That is a six man announce table...

Simple Fan 08-16-2017 12:25 PM

Damn, didn't expect they'd have Corbin cash in unsuccessfully. Smack down wasn't nearly as good as Raw this week.

Lock Jaw 08-16-2017 01:07 PM

Just watched it...... cash in was dumb........

#1-norm-fan 08-16-2017 01:59 PM

It was great. Fuck Baron Corbin. We've avoided another shitty, boring title run by a shitty, boring guy that's gonna ruin the value of the title and make wrestling even shittier and more boring...

for now.

I'd take Jinder over Corbin any day. At least he has a semblance of a personality.

Lock Jaw 08-16-2017 05:26 PM

I'd take Corbin over Jinder every day.

Destor 08-16-2017 05:31 PM

Jimder is easily the right choice...

#BROKEN Hasney 08-16-2017 05:41 PM

Jinder or Corbin is like asking if I want a metal needle or a cactus needle in my urethra. Just let Cena have it even.

Oh shit, I just found out their master plan. I'd actually cheer Cena over Jinder and Corbin's mediocrity. YOU'VE SHOWN ME IT COULD BE WORSE, VINCE. YOU WIN.

GD 08-16-2017 10:50 PM

No, it was ridiculous. I'm with LJ...I'd rather have Corbin as champ.

Simple Fan 08-17-2017 02:23 AM

Truthfully that's what he gets for giving an apology. Could have just played it off as being a heel. Still shocked he cashed in unsuccessfully.

SenatorJPO 08-18-2017 05:25 PM

I'm sure Corbin regets -- I mean, "regrets" -- cashing-in as he did.

SenatorJPO 08-18-2017 05:27 PM

Did anyone else read about Chyna's impotence and how the In-laws joined DX?

You know, in that article where the headline was, "X-Pac on DX Reg(r)ets."
