I'm not a huge fan of the way they are dressing and putting together Gambit, though.

Gambit's costume would look ridiculous on screen. But they should have given him the proer eyes tho. Maybe they do at some point in the film.

Blitz 12-17-2008 05:07 PM

Thought I might have got a glimpse of the scarred up Deadpool as well, but I'm not sure.

The Destroyer 12-17-2008 05:08 PM

Trailer looks pretty promising to me.

In other random news, Kenneth Branagh has been confirmed to direct Thor. Not entirely sure why they've chosen him, but time will tell I suppose.

Fox 12-17-2008 05:45 PM

Trailers mean nothing.

They chose him because he's perfect for the film. Thor is norse legend, and likely going to be set in the distant past.
Branagh is legitimate in the world of directing period peices and Shakesperian adaptations.
He knows drama. He should be great for this, if they can get the right script and actor.
I'd love to see Daniel Craig play Thor, and them go balls to the wall with the Norse time period/epic scale.
It needs to be action packed and under 2 1/2 hours to work though.

Jeritron 12-17-2008 07:32 PM

They're using Gambit because people want to see Gambit. They should have used him in the Xmen films, but those are dead for the same reason. They squandered away tons of characters and made it too populated.
They're just trying to get all of the marketable names into these movies as fast as they can. Xmen3 was a fuckin waste. I wouldn't call it the worst sequel ever, or the worst comic film ever. Not at all. But it was pretty fuckin bad and I don't know if I've ever seen an installment KILL a franchise so directly.

Batman and Robin killed Batman because of how bad it was.
Xmen 3 just flat out killed Xmen because of the plot and execution. It turned out tolerable, but they blew their load and stripmined the franchise.

Funky Fly 12-17-2008 08:37 PM

If they're going to do X4, they should acknowledge the first 3, but largely ignore them. Killing off Sabretooth first thing and ignoring his backstory with Wolverine was retarded. Thankfully, Sabretooth is near indestructible, so they can do the whole "no body, not dead" and bring him back like they would have if it were a comic book. Wolverine not recognizing him could be chalked up to the amnesia, but Sabretooth not recognizing Wolverine... damn.

Thankfully, X-3 left the door open with that little bit about Magneto's power not being entirely gone. That means anyone who was cured can be uncured, including Mags himself.

Kinda hope they follow X2's example and reference the shit out of people, rather than having 54643578359 people in it and they end up being one offs with no development who get killed (Psylocke, etc.). Also kinda hope they get an actual fan of the comics to direct (Favreau & Iron Man, Norton & Incredible Hulk) and not just a big name in Hollywood (Ang Lee & Hulk, Ratner & X3). They will respect the source material and not bollocks things up with retarded storylines or unnecessary changes to the characters.

Jeritron 12-17-2008 08:43 PM

They never killed off Sabretooth in the Xmen movies, but yea they shit all over things in X3

Thought he got knocked off the Statue of Liberty in the first one. That's a long way down, mang.

Into the ocean. Not such a bad fall for Creed. When you consider that Wolverine survived having most of his skin (but inexplicably, not his pants) destroyed by Phoenix, it is not so implausible Sabretooth survived.

Destor 12-17-2008 09:02 PM

I thought they had never met in the origional.

That's what Funky is talking about; it's a bit of a plothole that Sabretooth would not recognise Logan (but not the other way around because of Wolverine's convenient amnesia angle) if he was gonna be in the "origin" story.

That said, Singer wouldn't have been anticipating prequels when they made the first X-Men movie.

No he didn't die. They just never brought him back in the sequels for whatever reason.
He got knocked onto a fishing boat and crushed it. They showed that, and he laid there knocked out.
At the end, after the plan was foiled, however, they showed the cops approach the boat. It was still there, and it was crushed, but where Sabretooth should be laying there was nothing. He got away.

Toad died.

Falling from a great height into water is actually worse than landing an the ground. The surface tension of the water actually makes it harder than earth. However...

Ah, I should go watch it again. Didn't remember that bit. Yeah, they killed Toad, but he's never been a major player at all.

mitchables 12-17-2008 09:37 PM

Okay we're talking about movies where people can control metal with their minds, shapeshift, split into multiple copies, and block telepathy with giant styrofoam helmets.

Let's not get bogged down in "water is harder than the ground on impact" physics.

Dammit, Funk. I'm a fanboy, not a scientist.

Jeritron 12-17-2008 09:58 PM

Sabretooth has power analagous to Wolverine anyways, right? He'd survive that fall easily, even if it wasn't shown.

Funky Fly 12-17-2008 11:16 PM

lol true, Mitch.

Well, since the movie is supposed to be somewhere around the introduction of the New X-Men (give or take a few years), it's safe to assume that he didn't have his adamantium claws or super enhanced healing factor from Weapon X, so he could but he'd be pretty fucked up.

I just don't like how useless he was in that film. Sabretooth is a master tactician/manipulator. He wins fight he has no business winning because he can get in your head so well.

mitchables 12-17-2008 11:16 PM

Yeah, that was really the point I was trying to make with the whole "Wolverine's pants survived the Phoenix explosion" thing. ie if Logan (and his pants) can survive that, then Creed can deal with a fall from the Statue of Liberty - onto a boat, into the ocean, whatever.

mitchables 12-17-2008 11:17 PM

Goddammit Funky. You know how I am about using the quote function.

YOUR Hero 12-17-2008 11:56 PM

This is the worst case of someone being cut in half, that I've ever seen.

I would be too if it wasn't Van Wilder

Funky Fly 12-18-2008 01:36 AM

I wonder if he'll have that "gravely Demi quality" to his voice that they always joke about in his books.

Jeritron 12-18-2008 01:41 AM

lol at the blob

Jeritron 12-18-2008 01:45 AM

I'm gonna be straight up honest with you folks, and it's my opinion only, but this movie looks shit. I love Wolverine and I love Xmen but this looks bad.

For a antihero that's a huge smartass, you could do a lot worse than Ryan Reynolds.

What? Thats like the perfect casting.

Fignuts 12-18-2008 01:46 AM

Curse you, Blitz!

Jeritron 12-18-2008 01:53 AM

Ryan Reynolds is never the perfect casting in a semi-serious film.

I dunno, whole movie looks atrocious to me. Seems about on pace with Nicholas Cage action flicks and/or the Resident Evil movies, and other action films like that.

mitchables 12-18-2008 02:36 AM

Is that Emma Frost in there too? If so, good shit.

Where did you think you saw scarred up 'Pool? I only saw him when he turns around with his swords when they're discussing the team.

Blob looks ridiculous.

Other than that, I can't say I am not interested in this film. It feels like it might be able to come close to the feeling of X2.

Towards the end of the trailer, for a split second there is a guy spinning through the air with katanas, towards wolverine. He also looks a little....lumpy.

mitchables 12-18-2008 02:41 AM

I'll rewatch it and keep an eye out.

And I am positive he says "I'm gonna cut your head off", not "I'm gonna cut you in half". I am only positive of this because in the original trailer release the line was "I'm gonna cut your goddamn head off". It was clearer, and he definitely didn't say "your goddamn half". :-\

Not that it really matters, honestly.

k one sec gonna rewatch.

mitchables 12-18-2008 02:48 AM

Ahhhh yeah, I see him. Just before the Emma Frost turning-to-diamonds bit.

Yeah, definitely looks like he's got some kind of Deadpool-esque facemask on, and he looked "lumpy", as you said. Hope that's him.

Who's the frozen kid with the yellow eye?

That was a confusing double negative, shame on you Mitch.

And assuming it IS Deadpool doing that spinning bit, he does look bald and a bit lumpy in the face.

Stryker's kid from X2, apparently.

Looked to me like he had a facemask on. Maybe I am wrong. But most people seem to be of the opinion that is Deadpool. Checked up a few of those "we break the Wolverine Origin trailer down shot by shot!" type posts that seem to be all the rage lately with new trailers.

Did Jason have different colored eyes in X2?
