The Avs D scored 3 goals all season. That's awful. Seth Jones addressing more of a need than MacKinnon does.

ideally they'd trade Paul Stasny for some sort of defensemen, but Paul Stasny kind of sucks so I don't know what they're planning on.

I heard Stastny for Dion Phaneuf has been knocked around a bit.

I would love for them to do that, but it makes sense for them to so I doubt they will.

The Avs are a real enigma

I don't know why teams neglect defense. It baffles me.

I knew Boston was going to destroy Pittsburgh because Pittsburgh threw all their chips on Morrow, Iginla and Jokinen, and added nothing to their defense, besides slow ass Doug Murray


Edmonton currently has Hall, Eberle, Hemsky, Gagner, MSP, Horcoff, RNH, and they won't win shit.


Their current top 4 defense are Anton Belov who they signed out of the KHL and has yet to play a single game, Nick Schultz who is a nice bottom pairing guy, Justin Schultz who I love and Jeff Petry. Smid is meh and I guess Mark Fistric is the 6th by default


That is atrocious, and that's what you get for constantly spending high picks on forwards and neglecting the real need. They have a ton of $ tied of with their forwards, have a cheap d core and still don't have a #1 goaltender.

I wouldn't be excited about it. Dion's fine. He's just not that #1 guy that Toronto has labelled him as. Plays far too much.

Justin Schultz is pretty great

I'm of the opinion that the Avs are right to draft Nathan MacKinnon if they do because it takes so long for defensemen to develop into impact players and apparently all number one drafted defensemen turn out to be awful, but if they're bluffing and take Jones I'm fine with it.

Avs aren't winning anytime soon. They can afford to wait. Seth Jones is possibly the best d prospect since Chris Pronger.

Here's the problem with some of the defense I've noticed who get drafted high and flame out.

Like you said, it takes a bit longer for a defenceman to develop. Lots of different nuances to the game.


Luke Schenn, Zack Bogosian, Victor Hedman, all got rushed to the NHL straight out of the draft, when they should have spent more time in Junior. If a young defenseman's confidence gets ruined by getting burned by a forward it shows more. Nobody is patient anymore.

And the fact that it's easier to quantify how successful forwards are since they score the majority of the points and aren't as responsible for any defensive mistakes.

If Furcale somehow drops in the first round if I'm the Avs id be exploring into gettinga late first round pick.

Lol did I ever say how much I fucking love the NHL draft. I buy up all the hockey draft mags every years and read tons of mock drafts and scouting report each year. Toronto picks at 21. Thinking maybe they draft Gauthier who is a center out of the QMHL. They are pretty deep at defence in terms of spects in Rielly, Finn, Percy and Blacker. Deep draft this year so they should be able to get a good player.

That's no knock on Pulock, who I think can be very good - I just feel the Isles already have a lot of depth at defense and they very much need to get a goalie of the future. Also a bit disappointed with giving up on Niederreiter so early. I know his agent had asked for a trade, but he was still young so I would have like for them to have tried and smoothed things over. The Islanders had a good offense last year, but they don't have much organizational offensive depth if people get hurt.</font>

You can never have too much depth on defence. Teams covet it. Plus it can easily be dealt for an established goaltender.

It only cost the Leafs a 2nd and Matt Frattin/Ben Scrivens for Jonathan Bernier.

Islanders bought out Rick DiPietro's contract today. ESPN compared that horrible contract to another from MLB.

Guaranteed about $1.5 million per year but won't count against the cap for the Islanders.

Bs had hinted going into the offseason they wouldn't have been able to keep Peverly for next season because the cap is too tight. Seguin getting traded was more due to him being owed too much money and some off-ice concerns more than him having a bit of a down year in terms of expectations.

Stars are going to benefit a lot with Seguin as long as they can quickly settle the issues with his off-ice stuff.
