Right improvements lol

Today, we get to share with everyone some of our plans for WWE 2K17. We will not get into full details today, as more information will be revealed as we head toward the game’s release on October 11. Instead, we are offering an overview of several features and focus areas for WWE 2K17. Let’s jump right in …

GAMEPLAY

With the WWE 2K franchise, we are striving to deliver the most authentic and realistic WWE experience possible. Fans have been asking us to truly improve the core gameplay experience since we inherited the brand, and we are taking your requests seriously – from controls to presentation to individual features. We’ve shifted the gameplay experience focus from an arcade-centric, fighting game style to simulation-based gameplay, and WWE 2K17 continues pushing in that direction with both improved and new gameplay mechanics. In WWE 2K17, the fans will, more than ever, get to control the action how and where they want, including competing in the crowd and backstage areas. Our community asked for the return of playable backstage and crowd areas, so we delivered on this request. We also greatly improved the responsiveness of gameplay while also updating game systems like Ladders, Taunts and a new secondary submission system. As always, we added thousands of new animations into WWE 2K17, so there is a lot of new gameplay for everyone to discover and enjoy. These are just a few of the gameplay improvements we are delivering in WWE 2K17, all of which will provide the most authentic WWE experience to date.
I mean, they "strive" to replicate things but haven't done a great job. That said, I'm glad they're changing so much at once since last year really only had the shitty new submission system that I hope is gone with the new secondary thing too.

CREATION

The WWE 2K17 Creation Suite enables the WWE Universe to customize, build and share their own unique WWE Superstars, Arenas, Entrances, Shows and more. For WWE 2K17, we added new creation features, as well as focused on deepening and providing even more options for existing creation features. For example, we added many more parts, more adjustment options and elements like body hair, all of which add to the game’s massive set of customization options. We also added a full Highlight Replay system, which allows players to record video highlights from their matches. The video content can be used in our new Create a Video feature, which lets players create videos for use in things like custom entrance Titan Tron videos for created Superstars. We also deepened the Create a Show feature and added a brand new Create a Victory feature to ensure everyone can create the most comprehensive WWE experience possible. Whether players build their own worlds or simply expand on existing tools, the power is in their hands.
Cool, they usually do alright here. Create a Victory has been needed since the jump to this generation and thank fuck for create a tron coming back.

But still, no custom music? We know it's doable now.

Quote:

2K SHOWCASE

One of the largest and most difficult decisions we made for WWE 2K17 was to forego building a 2K Showcase. We designed and contemplated several Showcase ideas, including options surrounding our cover Superstar, Brock Lesnar, but all of them were not viable due to the many historic WWE Superstars needed but not available for inclusion in the game. In addition, the team is heavily focused on building and delivering great content that fans can enjoy for years to come, while the Showcases only live in games from year to year. In all, we didn’t feel good about creating a Showcase that was not up to our standards and current development vision, so we decided to take that effort and put it into modes our community requests we keep improving: WWE Universe and MyCareer.
If the gameplay, career and universe modes have significant improvements, I'm totally fine with it being gone. That's one hell of a huge IF though.

Quote:

WWE UNIVERSE MODE

In WWE Universe Mode, we are working to recreate the drama and excitement seen every week on Raw, SmackDown Live and NXT. For WWE 2K17, we created a new flow that focuses on these shows. The shows are what we all watch each week, and now with the recent brand split, are even more important. Our new Show Presentation system makes players feel like they are playing through a weekly episode of any WWE television or WWE Network program. We also added more intrigue and possibilities by incorporating run-ins, as well as pre- and post-match attacks. Just like in WWE, we never know what might happen next.

Even with all these new features, presentation and possibilities, we still felt something was missing: promos. In turn, WWE 2K17 will deliver a brand new Promo Engine that lets the WWE Superstars express their thoughts and emotions to the WWE Universe and one another. The Promo Engine creates a new dynamic and brings the experience closer to the actual WWE than ever before. That’s not all – we also are delivering a completely revamped offering of all Universe Mode cut scenes, including familiar and brand new scenarios. Collectively, WWE 2K17 represents the most comprehensive and authentic WWE Universe we’ve attempted thus far.
Promo engine? Run ins? It all sounds promising, but man.... I've been burnt so many times

Quote:

MYCAREER

MyCareer also gets some exciting new features for WWE 2K17. We incorporated the new Promo Engine, so Superstars can express themselves to the WWE Universe and also call out or respond to other WWE Superstars. Backstage interviews with Renee Young take on a whole new dimension with our new backstage brawling gameplay. Now more than ever, how a player competes, reacts, what is said and even what attire is worn can make a difference in a Superstar’s journey through the WWE. At some point, players are also likely to come face to face with Brock Lesnar and his advocate, Paul Heyman. What happens when confronted by this imposing duo will greatly shape a player’s future career growth in WWE.
Again, sounds great! They've not even come close to nailing this mode yet though.

Quote:

WHAT’S NEXT?

The above is a select list of the improvements and additions we are making for WWE 2K17. There is a lot more to discuss in the near future, from the features above to online to all the other components we know you’ll ask about, and we will get into more details as we get closer to the game’s release. We are excited to start sharing what we are doing with the game and look forward to letting everyone in on all the exciting things in store with WWE 2K17. After all, the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, is waiting for you in Suplex City.

Oh, and since everyone seems to be speculating – yes – the roster is larger than last year.

We know you will enjoy WWE 2K17.

–Mark Little, Executive Producer of WWE 2K
And more? This does seem to be the biggest overhaul they've ever done in terms of the nuts and bolts, so if they pull it off, I won't miss showcase which is likely the most time consuming thing to do each year. I can't even be cautiously optimistic, but they're talking a good game.

Frank Drebin 08-12-2016 09:27 AM

Agree on Showcase mode. Once you play through it, why do it again? It's cool and all, but such a small part of the game.

I've said for years, Universe mode (to a lesser extent Career mode) are where the improvements need to happen. Still a hard pass this year as well until they show those modes are fun to play and a Wrestlemania feels like a Wrestlemania.

Evil Vito 08-12-2016 11:40 AM

I would be all in on this if Universe Mode was worth a shit. Without it, I'd get bored very quickly just like I do every year.

Emperor Smeat 08-12-2016 07:05 PM

The part about the issue with Brock's opponents for a potential Showcase sounds like either the wrestlers they wanted were asking for too much or the WWE personally got involved and nixed the idea.

In the past whenever 2K Games needed someone not on the WWE roster or in WWE's good graces for Showcase, they just offered a special separate deal in order to get it done. Believe that was how Warrior and a few others got included for games.

Evil Vito 08-12-2016 11:12 PM

Kurt Angle was probably the main holdup for a Lesnar showcase. CM Punk may have been but it'd have been easy enough to skip over SummerSlam 2013. Can't very well skip over WrestleMania 19.

Was on the fence about buying this game but now that I see LIL EDDIE is on the soundtrack I will now def get it. LIL EDDIE is the best of all the LIL named rapers.

Guys like Billy Gunn, Larry Zbyszko, and Los Matadores being in the game pretty much just confirms that they're doing the same thing they did last year - simply porting over the previous year's roster/DLC and adding to it.

And honestly, that's how it should be. If they've got the space to continually just keep adding and never really needing to remove guys (save for those who wound up on bad terms with WWE) that's how it should go. Nobody would lose sleep if General Adnan or somebody had to be removed, but unless they actually have to free up space it makes sense to just keep on adding.

Having said that, the only real intrigue is which new wrestlers will make it in. Braun Strowman and Charlotte just got confirmed. Sasha was revealed earlier and of course Jax/Nakamura/Crews are all NXT edition exclusive/eventual DLC.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-13-2016 12:11 PM

Most of the NXT guys like American Alpha, and Mojo have been there by far long enough to be included. Same with Alexa and Carmella.

The paid DLC of last year is usually included free in the roster of the game of the year after.

From 2k15 onwards yeah. THQ never did that, it was frustrating as hell.

Fignuts 08-13-2016 08:18 PM

Wow.

Been saying for a while that they should cut showcase to focus on improving everything else, but I didn't think they'd actually do it.

Disturbed316 08-14-2016 05:10 AM

Interesting, if they actually follow up and actually change things.

drave 08-14-2016 09:33 AM

I'll wait for a playable demo and/or price drop. Not getting burned AGAIN.

For what it's worth, the NXT edition box art included Alpha, Alexa, Bayley, Asuka, Dana Brooke, and The Revival. It may not mean anything but I'd think they'd try to be careful to not include images of people who aren't in the game.

Also included were Joe, Blake/Murphy, and Enzo/Cass who should all surely be ported over from last year's game.

They really couldn't get the historic accuracy down due to copyrights and it made the experience really terrible for the young fan in me that remembers everything that went on.

They're listening and I'm going to buy it straight up, hopefully they come through on the run-in booking and all. My Universe is going to be sweet if so

#BROKEN Hasney 08-15-2016 11:23 AM

Yeah, remembering the horrible interference of the old Universe mode... Ref gets knocked out, then it just lasts for a minute. Gotta be better than that.

#BROKEN Hasney 08-15-2016 11:33 AM

IGN played it. Some of these fixes... Man.

In WWE 2K17, the ladder can only be set up in five specific locations: in front of each set of ropes, and in the center of the ring. Just get close to one, press the right button, and it gets set up properly every time. On top of that, you can set a ladder up as a bridge from the apron to the outside barrier.
Sweet, limit options!

Quote:

When a member of a mutli-person match takes a big burst of damage, they will be forced to roll out to ringside, where they’ll rest for a while.
Hopefully can be turned off for multiplayer, but makes sense to stop those matches lasting forever.

Quote:

As for the submission system, it’s been tuned so that your rotating “pie wedges” aren’t so slippery. It definitely feels like you have more control in submission situations as a result. That said, some people still just want to mash buttons, and for them, an alternate submission system can be turned on that let’s them go back to the days of controller smashing and mashing.
Thankfully that's an option

Quote:

Major reversals were a new addition last year, but you seldom saw them because of how narrow their timing window was. This year, the timing is a bit more forgiving, and it does a lot more for you when you land one. In addition to getting as bit of an offensive boost like before, a successful Major Reversal locks out your opponent’s ability to perform reversals of their own.
That I actually like. Major reversals become a momentum shift rather than something a little pointless.

Seriously, fuck the ladder changes.

They should call this Roman Reigns mode.

Fignuts 08-15-2016 07:55 PM

Ladders have been a janky pain in the ass to use, so I'm actually not against that decision. It's possible that you could still set them up oin tje corner and outside. He might just be talking about opening them up to climb in-ring, when he talks about the limitations.

Either way, if it makes ladder matches less of a headache, I'm cool.

drave 08-16-2016 06:01 AM

The tag team mechanic of "every single pin I will break up". Not that someone wouldn't WANT to do that IRL - but having to knock the CPU off the apron just to get a pin sucked.

Evil Vito 08-16-2016 12:55 PM

The animation is so much better for entrances.

Evil Vito 08-16-2016 02:52 PM

So apparently the very first batch of roster reveals IGN posted had numbers in the file names. For instance there was 0001-Aiden English right down to 0124-Viktor.

IGN Boards speculated that the numbers correlated to where they were placed on the roster if it were laid out alphabetically, and with the second batch of reveals IGN stopped adding the numbers in.

However someone on IGN is tracking it and so far nobody else that's been revealed falls out of line with the initial numbers.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ge/numbers.png

Leaves room for the entire rest of the current roster, the NXT people that were on the NXT Edition box art, and some obvious legends. They've tried to keep all of the 2015 HOF class in except for Kevin Nash (unless they made him Diesel...even if so, annoying that they took Hall back out).

Oh and Haku isn't returning either based on this. :(

It takes serious effort to make Alexa Bliss look unattractive, even in video game form.

drave 08-16-2016 04:24 PM

Have you ever seen any of the divas ever from any of them? THEY ARE AWFUL.

Evil Vito 08-16-2016 04:26 PM

tbh I've never really noticed as I've never used the divas unless required to do so in a storyline.

Back when there were only like 6 or 7 women that made it into the game I would just deactivate them all in Universe mode as it got even more repetitive than it already was.

The initial batch had a Bella and Charlotte looking much better than they had in previous years, thinking that maybe they had improved.

Now they have just made good versions of a couple and fucked up the rest.

drave 08-16-2016 05:31 PM

Yep, ever since they started "scanning" people in the game it is painfully obvious who they take time to do that with and not.

They didn't scan ANY of the females in 2k16 or half the male roster.

When they were working on 2k16 I was in the boat of "scan all or none" because the difference is that apparent and makes things seem "shitty".
