I think this is one of the few shows where the main character could die and the show could still survive.

The Walking Dead companion series will air late this summer with 6 episodes and season two will be in 2016. I'm seeing the word prequel being thrown around but I wouldn't consider it a prequel unless it shows how the current group was before the outbreak or is a short series that ultimately winds up at Rick waking up. To me it seems more like a companion show that just starts earlier and in a different place.
