Id be really laughing at the Steelers shitting the bed a 2nd straight week if it didn't mean I was losing fantasy football.

Fenix122 11-17-2014 11:25 PM

Won my fantasy game this week by less than a point...thanks to the valiant effort of Le'Veon Bell.

Adrian Peterson officially suspended for the rest of the season without pay. Here are some excerpts from Roger Goodell's letter to Peterson:

In modifying the NFL Personal Conduct Policy August 28, Commissioner Goodell established a baseline discipline of a suspension without pay for six games for certain offenses, including a first offense of assault, battery, or domestic violence. He also identified aggravating circumstances that would warrant higher levels of discipline. In his letter, Commissioner Goodell identified several aggravating circumstances present in this case:

“First, the injury was inflicted on a child who was only four years old. The difference in size and strength between you and the child is significant, and your actions clearly caused physical injury to the child. While an adult may have a number of options when confronted with abuse – to flee, to fight back, or to seek help from law enforcement – none of those options is realistically available to a four-year old child. Further, the injury inflicted on your son includes the emotional and psychological trauma to a young child who suffers criminal physical abuse at the hands of his father.

Second, the repetitive use of a switch in this instance is the functional equivalent of a weapon, particularly in the hands of someone with the strength of an accomplished professional athlete.

Third, you have shown no meaningful remorse for your conduct. When indicted, you acknowledged what you did but said that you would not ‘eliminate whooping my kids’ and defended your conduct in numerous published text messages to the child’s mother. You also said that you felt ‘very confident with my actions because I know my intent.’ These comments raise the serious concern that you do not fully appreciate the seriousness of your conduct, or even worse, that you may feel free to engage in similar conduct in the future.”

"The well-being of your children is of paramount concern,” Goodell wrote. “In the absence of speaking to you to understand your current disposition toward child discipline, we cannot be sure that this conduct will not be repeated. Moreover, we are unaware of any effort on your part to acknowledge the seriousness of your conduct and your responsibility to demonstrate a genuine commitment to change.

“In order to assess your progress going forward, I will establish periodic reviews, the first of which will be on or about April 15, 2015. At that time, I will meet with you and your representatives and the NFLPA to review the extent to which you have complied with your program of counseling and therapy and both made and lived up to an affirmative commitment to change such that this conduct will not occur again. A failure to cooperate and follow your plan will result in a lengthier suspension without pay.”

Finally, Goodell noted that any further violation by Peterson could result in "banishment from the NFL."

“It is imperative that you to avoid any incident of this kind in the future,” Goodell wrote. “Any further violation of the Personal Conduct Policy will result in additional discipline and may subject you to banishment from the NFL.”

I'm pretty torn on this. I don't think physically disciplining children is the worst thing a human being could do ever. I know that I am supposed to be outraged but I'm not. Although, 4 is pretty god damned young.

Innovator 11-18-2014 10:36 AM

Theres a line the size of the Great Wall of China, length wise, between spanking your child and hitting them repeatedly with a switch

Nark Order 11-18-2014 10:52 AM

Eh. When I grew up that was just kinda normal in my extended family. I'm just never going to feel offended by it. My cousins frequently got the belt and I got the belt once or twice. We were much older and more prepared for such though. 4 is way young.

Clerk 11-18-2014 11:40 AM

bROWNS SUCKS

Ruien 11-18-2014 01:17 PM

I think it really hurt him, AP, that he skipped his meeting with the NFL.

Heisenberg 11-18-2014 02:11 PM

What did Ben Tate say to get cut from the Browns?

ClockShot 11-18-2014 02:56 PM

LeGarrette Blount walked off the field early before last night's game was over. Pittsburgh told him to don't bother coming back and released him.

Emperor Smeat 11-18-2014 03:43 PM

Colts debunked possible rumors of them signing Ray Rice once he's eligible. Rumors were fueled by the Colts need for a new RB and former NFL connections Chuck Pagano had with Rice.

If that doesn't offend you, you're kind of a shitty human being.

Nark Order 11-18-2014 04:29 PM

Naw. It's just hard to have a conversation without people massaging their own egos and doing the "wow, you think that? I don't because I'm great" routine. Congrats, you're average. I grew up with it. Not a big deal to me.

That kind is pretty young though. Not something I would do or condone.

#1-norm-fan 11-18-2014 04:41 PM

It's just odd to me that your personal experience with it makes you not feel like it's wrong in general. Is it really just a matter of "It happened to me so I can't see a problem with it"?

Nark Order 11-18-2014 04:43 PM

It's not that I am "pro beating children," I just recognize that it is a common practice in many parts of the country and people that employ these tactics usually do it for strictly disciplinary purposes and do not intend to harm the child. Is it a great way to go about things? No, probably not. But I don't fault him for thinking that way because that was how he was how he experienced life. Would I employ the same tactics? No. But I don't put my hand over my mouth and audibly gasp when somebody gets the belt. Get real. I've been there.

Not something I'm fond of, but I get it.

1.7 yards per carry in the last five games and they need a roster spot for Josh Gordon. Not sure if it was anything besides lack of production and overpayment.

Jason Avant has been cut by the Panthers too. I think it was for stuff he said like Blount.

road doggy dogg 11-18-2014 08:55 PM

Tate has been pretty vocal about his lack of touches in recent weeks as well

That's what I don't get about the whole "Well, he was raised to believe that's how you discipline your kids so I don't fault him" thing. He's a grown man now. He's capable of figuring out that beating a kid with a switch until his legs are bleeding is fucking sick and twisted. The fact that it may be "common practice" doesn't make it less so. There's a lot of things that are common practice that are pretty horrific. People need to learn to think for themselves as opposed to just accepting something as fine because it's accepted by others.

#1-norm-fan 11-18-2014 09:15 PM

Still haven't seen an explanation of why Blount left the field early. Just a lot of reports that he did and now he's released.

Emperor Smeat 11-18-2014 09:33 PM

Seems to be hinted about his growing frustrations over the lack of carries and playing time that finally got to the point he had that outburst.

Steelers weren't expecting Le'Veon Bell to be as great as he's been this season so he took over as their main RB this season. One of the big reasons Blount left the Pats was to get more playing time.

Christian dogma is hard to break when it's been indoctrinated into their minds from their parents and generations.

So supposedly the Jets are going to play the Bills in Buffalo on Sunday despite an ungodly amount of snow in upstate New York

http://deadspin.com/the-bills-are-pl...1660728462/all

and the Bills are looking to pay people and give them tickets to the game to shovel out Ralph Wilson Stadium

It's OK he went to a better team anyways.

road doggy dogg 11-20-2014 09:27 AM

Shrewd move by the Pats. They let Blount go to the Steelers and get a pick from the deal, then just re-sign him back when he gets cut.

$10/hours and tickets? I'd be out there in a heartbeat.

Droford 11-20-2014 05:14 PM

Not playing in Buffalo anymore..potentially in DC or NJ..doesn't seem fair to give the jets another home game.

Nark Order 11-20-2014 05:21 PM

Detroit will host. Jesus. That might be awesome.

I feel like that's happened before recently where a team got 9 home games for some reason.

Droford 11-20-2014 05:41 PM

Giants played the Saints in NJ due to katrina

They lost by 20 at home in October. They could use a break this season. Philly is a 3rd potential spot and more fair to buffalo.

I wouldn't count those chickens yet buster.

Triple A 11-20-2014 10:12 PM

What if the camera stays like this for the rest of the game

Droford 11-20-2014 10:14 PM

Is there another Chiefs/Raiders game on that I'm not watching, cause the one I'm watching looks like the Chiefs said "fuck this" right around the time they gave up the 90 yard touchdown and decided to sleepwalk through the rest of the game.

If the Raiders were better this would be even more lopsided than 14-3

SlickyTrickyDamon 11-20-2014 10:32 PM

Raiders will throw a pick-6 to tie the game.
