After the exhausted Padres battled to a time limit draw over the Rockies to pick up their third straight title defense, the dastardly Dodgers cashed in their Money in the Bank contract to win the MLB Series Championship.

Whoops

Should have watched a bit of that. Betcha the background noise was interesting, windows shattering, people screaming and chanting.

Looks like Adam Wainwright might have blown out his Achilles coming out of the batter's box last night.

I always thought it would take an ace going down with a major injury while batting to give the Player's Association real ammunition to fight for the DH being added to the NL the next time the CBA is up, and there it is.

Frank Drebin 04-26-2015 03:31 PM

Always torn about the DH. I like NL ball better because I like all the strategy that goes into lineup manipulation especially late in the game. On the other hand, another hitter is better to see not to mention the game could probably use some more offense in a predominantly pitching friendly era.

Wonder if you could do something wacky like allowing the home team to choose DH or not, and expand the roster to 26 with 25 being active for a game. Probably dumb since I'm guessing everyone but Joe Maddon would pick the DH everytime.

Damian Rey 04-26-2015 03:56 PM

The strategy and lineup manipulation is phoney though. The national league average of pitching changes is only a marginal amount more than its American counterpart.

I'm all for the dh league wide. If I wanna see someone flail helplessly at breaking balls, I'll record my Sunday league at bats.

Evil Vito 04-26-2015 04:04 PM

I love NL baseball and will continue to defend it. I love the late decisions that factor into games. Pitcher is throwing a gem in a close game, keep him in or pinch hit? The late-game double switches. The need to actually have a well-rounded bench with guys who can play multiple positions. Bartolo Colon batting.

Evil Vito 04-26-2015 04:09 PM

Although this has no chance of happening, my solution would be to eliminate the DH league-wide and expand the rosters to 27 players. The union would need a damn good reason to agree to eliminating the DH, so this proposal would placate them by creating 60 new jobs league wide.

I figure in this scenario most teams would carry an extra relief pitcher and then a 6 man bench. Those older guys who can still hit but not do much else can still be saved as a lethal bat for late in the game. In the modern NL it's tough to keep a one-dimensional player like that around as a pinch-hit specialist since, again, NL baseball behooves a team to have a diverse, flexible bench.

Owners might not be happy about having to pay 2 more guys a Major League salary, but budgets may still go down with the high-paying DH job gone. The teams that would have a big issue with it are the Tigers, Yankees, etc. who have high paid DHs who pretty much can't field anymore and now there'd be nowhere for them to play.

Pitching has been abysmal. Even when they were doing well earlier, still had issues with starting pitching barely getting 5 innings per game.

screech 04-26-2015 09:33 PM

Phillies won! Wooooo!

Evil Vito 04-26-2015 11:25 PM

lol jesus. people who hadn't watched the Mets all year probably watched tonight and wondered how the hell they were 14-4. 4 errors and a ridiculous baserunning blunder.

ah well. sucks to lose the Subway Series but they're still 9 games over .500 and back to playing NL baseball tomorrow. hopefully they don't let this loss linger. 7 more divisional games this week with a chance to put some really nice distance between them and the others.

road doggy dogg 04-27-2015 11:16 AM

Finally went to my first game of the season yesterday. Love baseball (© Supreme).

Emperor Smeat 04-27-2015 04:47 PM

Josh Hamilton deal made official today. Rangers get Hamilton along with Angels covering the bulk of what's left on his deal while Angels get the choice between cash or a player to be named later.

Droford 04-27-2015 06:36 PM

Fuck the idiot asshole kids wanting to riot in Baltimore for screwing up an entire 3 game series

ClockShot 04-27-2015 08:35 PM

Brandon McCarthy done for the season with a torn UCL.

Adjust your fantasy rosters accordingly.

Tommy John Surgery count for 2015: 13

Fenix122 04-27-2015 09:21 PM

Goddamn it....first Adam Wainwright now Brandon McCarthy. My team is dropping like flies.

ClockShot 04-28-2015 06:48 AM

Ooof. That sucks.

Time to make some trades, buddy.

Sounds like a perfect solution to me.....

road doggy dogg 04-28-2015 08:39 AM

Perfect solution is DH for all

Hey Vito, question for ya.

How EXACTLY did Matt Harvey get the nickname "The Dark Knight of Gotham"?

Simple Fan 04-28-2015 11:30 AM

Baltimore riots cancelled White Sox/Orioles game again today.

I believe Sports Illustrated wrote an article about him when he was taking the league by storm in 2013 calling him that, and it just sort of stuck. Harvey himself took to it. Been pretty outspoken that he wants to be the savior of the team and live the superstar lifestyle, date supermodels, sign the 9 figure contract, etc. Of course the NY media took the last part and ran with it assuming he'll be a Yankee in 2019 but whatever.

Funny thing is I read an article this past offseason about this whole "soul-searching" trip Harvey did in Asia the winter after his TJS. It sounded exactly like one of those exotic trips Bruce Wayne would take before returning to Gotham.

Evil Vito 04-28-2015 01:15 PM

What I love about Harvey is the dude holds himself to ridiculously high standards. I've he'd strike a guy out, give up a routine single, and then strike out 2 more guys...and he'd be shaking his head coming off the mound because he's pissed off that he gave up a single.

http://m.orioles.mlb.com/news/articl...d-to-tampa-bay

game will be played in an empty stadium. Unreal.

Evil Vito 04-28-2015 04:17 PM

That's gonna be so weird.

Should have moved it to Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, MD. Only holds like 6,500 but it's funny to imagine a big league game being played in a short season Single A stadium.

ClockShot 04-28-2015 04:37 PM

Empty Stadium match.

It's an afternoon game, too. Wish I'd be around to watch it, will definitely be weird.

Emperor Smeat 04-28-2015 05:09 PM

Does feel weird with MLB borrowing soccer type punishments.

road doggy dogg 04-28-2015 09:25 PM

Yeah damn @ afternoon game. May try to hold off on viewing MLB scores tomorrow and catching it on mlb.tv after

ClockShot 04-29-2015 07:14 AM

Ugh. Like 5 players went down to injuries yesterday. Yanks lose Tanaka for a month with a forearm strain.

Gonna suck looking for spot starters, team's actually been holding it together and doing good lately.

Droford 04-29-2015 07:27 AM

The worst part isn't today's empty stadium game, it's the fact that they moved the weekend series with Tampa to their shit fest of a stadium and Tampa has apparently decided that they don't want to switch back with the Os later in the season so they're essentially losing those 3 home games.

SlickyTrickyDamon 04-29-2015 08:26 AM

Unfair Tampa Bay Rays already know how to play baseball in an empty arena.

Evil Vito 04-29-2015 09:26 AM

Would be funny if they still have all of the scoreboard graphics and walkup music during the O's game.

That + the 7th inning stretch

road doggy dogg 04-29-2015 10:21 AM

Too bad it's a Wednesday afternoon game. Would be hot if it was a Monday night primetime game and there was a "7th Inning Stretch Boiler Room Brawl" match akin to HALFTIME HEAT empty arena match Mankind/The Rock...

Supreme Olajuwon 04-29-2015 10:25 AM

Is the area between right field and the warehouse part of the ballpark or is that public property. Hope it's public and there's like 8 million people out there.

Droford 04-29-2015 11:17 AM

Eutaw Street is considered the ballpark and you have to go through gates to get in there.

Supreme Olajuwon 04-29-2015 11:26 AM

Aw poop

RoXer 04-29-2015 02:00 PM

Let's watch!

RoXer 04-29-2015 02:00 PM

There's a real feeling of electricity in the ballpark tonight, Jim
