The Rogerer is my favourite poster of all time

Kris P Lettus 11-10-2015 07:27 AM

Going to get my copy after work.

See you fuckers in the Wasteland very soon.

drave 11-10-2015 07:39 AM

PLayed a wee bit this morning before work. Created my character and got to the part right when we are about to enter the Vault. So far soooooo good, haven't seen any combat, but the environment is set up pretty well.

Fignuts 11-10-2015 10:50 AM

Man, that first sequence of events after leaving the vault. More action packed than any fallout game opening ever. Even more than Alduin's attack in skyrim, At least in terms of variety.

drave 11-10-2015 12:09 PM

Soooooooooo can't wait.

If the Fignuts says it is good, trust the Fignuts. Fignuts says things that are all true.

Be careful, it's dangerous out there. Even stationary objects.

What you CAN'T see is the needle on the tip of that bomb that delivers instAIDS and you die.

Guess the player will invest in a better graphics card next time.

Shut. Up.

*awaits red dot*

drave 11-10-2015 01:53 PM

I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally trying to pass time @ work. Have some "training" that I am supposed to be doing playing in the background. Such bullshit.

Instead, reading about FO.

DAMN iNATOR 11-10-2015 01:58 PM

Well, I'll see you all in 3 months after your winter hibernations with this game. :wavesad:

Wishbone 11-10-2015 02:00 PM

So I've only played about 3 hours but I'm confident in saying this game is freaking awesome. Just fighting mole rats when I got Dogmeat felt epic as hell.

Downloading the last bit of the game right now.

Emperor Smeat 11-10-2015 06:08 PM

Game already broke at least one record on Steam and also gives a small idea of its PC sales so far.

Quote:

At the time of writing, Fallout 4 has 408,996 players concurrently playing. That's the most ever for a non-Valve developed game. The previous best was from Grand Theft Auto V earlier this year when it amassed around 360,000 people simultaneously playing. Before that, Bethesda's Skyrim held the mantle of most concurrent players.

For those on PC, just keep god rays on low or off. There is really no difference at all between low and ultra, aside from a massive FPS drop going to ultra. Force tesselation via the graphics driver as opposed to the game, and it should be all good. Game looks decent at 4k with minimal bugs, but could benefit from a nice texture mod.

Kris P Lettus 11-10-2015 07:31 PM

Drove an hour in traffic in the work truck pulling the camera and lighting trailer to pick up my copy. PS4 is updating now as I'm getting in the shower. See you guys in a month.

So I've been playing a bit now. Definitely need to up my vid card or something, but I'm on lowest settings and at least the game is fluid.

Super early-ish quest spoilerage below.

SPOILER: show
When you first get to Concord and you find the settler bros, that first fight against the Deathclaw was super tough. Maybe I was doing it wrong. Eventually beat him but feel like that should've definitely not been so hard for being so soon in the game lol

Kris P Lettus 11-10-2015 11:54 PM

Played for about four hours. It's really good.

Fignuts 11-11-2015 12:02 AM

Wish the deathclaw coming up from the ground wasn't in the trailers. Would have been a huge pants shitting moment.

Fignuts 11-11-2015 12:12 AM

Really love that you just hover over stuff to scavenge. So much more practical.

road doggy dogg 11-11-2015 12:30 AM

Yeah. Love how they remove a step in searching lockers/desks etc. So many times in 3/NV I'd open the same fucking drawer like 6x in a row before hitting one I haven't looked at yet.

The settlement thing seems REALLY comprehensive. I like that, but holy shit.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2015 03:39 AM

Kinda love that your character says "shut up" or "whatever" when you skip dialogue lines.

drave 11-11-2015 05:46 AM

@RDD

It was a hard fight.

SPOILER: show
I ended up finding a building with two stories, firing a shot to get it to come out and unleashing hell with the minigun. It seemed like the AI picked up on what I was doing once it realized it couldn't get to me. It took off and when I tried firing a shot to lure it back out, it didn't fall for it. Ended up having to come out of the building and play "cat and mouse" until it was dead.

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2015 06:12 AM

I found that fight fairly simple, playing on normal if that changes anything from what you guys were doing though. Backed up while firing down the street VATSing when I had the AP.

Bit of a bullet sponge, but not tricky.

road doggy dogg 11-11-2015 08:07 AM

I'm trying my hardest to not look at any guides/tips/strategies while going through. Can't help but feel I'm picking inoptimal perks. Not terribly fussed, though.

I'm focusing mainly on upping my pistols/rifles and VATS abilities. Not playing super stealthy or anything but focusing more on mid to long range combat

Yeah, I'm not bothering. Half the fun is the surprises in the wasteland. If shit gets too hard because of my build, I'd rather just drop the difficulty than do it how a guide tells me.

road doggy dogg 11-11-2015 08:16 AM

It's the best way to experience it imo. Unfortunately sitting in an office for 8 hours every day before being able to play makes it very hard not to peek at a couple things :wavesad:

so far so good~!

I know that feeling, I listened to a podcast that talked about impressions without spoilers to get me through it. So glad to be off work after tomorrow.

My trip to Memphis got pushed and I am off the rest of the week.

The Rogerer 11-11-2015 08:51 AM

I was a bit unsure when I started the game, but I did about 3 hours and was excited to keep going by the end. I played 3 and NV to death, but this game feels new enough to be mysterious again. Then I got overexcited when it started raining, that's how low my standards were. Love it.

The only bit that seemed awkward is figuring out how armour/crafting works, and doing the quest to build your first base. I had to leave and go elsewhere to find more plantable food to complete that. Then I guess you have to assign a person to each planted food to farm it, which could be explained more clearly.

I'm digging a lot of the character creation pics I'm seeing. Tiding me over at the office...

#BROKEN Hasney 11-11-2015 09:19 AM

Oh yeah, there's one thing I didn't say from my playthroughs last night.

FUCK MACHINE GUN TURRETS

I also need to get some actual armour at some point. Rocking a sequin dress because YAY CHARISMA BONUS, but some things were fucking me up before I went to bed last night.

Kris P Lettus 11-11-2015 11:49 AM

Spent the last two hours cleaning up the Red Rocket and building shit around it. Super fun but also fairly frustrating. Figured out most bit the electrical. I def agree with whoever said they should have explained it more.
